EPIPHANY

Two days ago, the Gilbert Kimeng Teaching Ministry organized and hosted its first ever virtual “Fireside Chat” session with Dr. Deanne De Vries as special guest.

I am so glad that following my guts led to the “meet and connect” session as I reached out to her after reading her very inspirational article on DisciplesToday.

When she accepted to literally jump on a Zoom call with me, I decided to carry along a few trusted friends – soul mates in the Tentmaking approach to Service for God.

It turns out that each of the 4 brothers and 3 sisters on the call (from 5 countries, 3 continents), as Dr. Deanne observed, had moved countries and even continents at least once.

We were held spellbound throughout the 90 minute (approx.) conversation and at the end, it became clear to me that a large percentage of my learning and sharing has been taking place through such informal interactions.

We resolved to pursue this format in order to reach well defined and specific types of audience, addressing identified needs within and outside the church.

So my epiphany is that as a Tentmaking missionary and teacher, the informal approach will be the most effective way to teach – one that is void of the trappings of church structure, authority lines and bureaucracy!

Rather, the informal approach is relational and leverages on partnerships, bringing to bear all kinds of resources.

Alleluia!
